VIDEO PARTY · SILVERGRID

Privacy Policy

Video Party is a product of SilverGrid Technologies LLC (SilverGrid Tech). This policy covers the Video Party Mac app, Android TV app, and their companion website at videoparty.app. It explains how we handle information when you organize, connect, and play your own videos.

Information we process

Account information: Google sign-in provides a Firebase account ID, email address, and basic profile information such as your name and profile image when supplied by Google. We use this information to authenticate you and connect your devices. We do not receive your Google password.

Library and activity: when you sign in on the desktop app, ordinary video details and thumbnails sync to your account, including while TV playback is off and without a cloud video storage allowance. We process video names, identifiers, folders, thumbnails, duration and format details, favorites, visibility settings, and playback progress. Hidden and VR videos are excluded from this automatic catalog sync. Your Mac also keeps local file paths, imported-library records, preferences, generated thumbnails, and prepared TV copies on that Mac.

Devices and connections: we process device identifiers and names, pairing codes, authentication tokens, connection status, and your Mac’s private network addresses to connect your own devices. Our hosting and application infrastructure can process IP addresses, request times, error messages, and diagnostic information for security and service operation.

Video content: your original videos remain on your Mac. A paired TV receives video over your local network when you play it. Video copies are uploaded to our cloud storage only when you choose Sync to cloud. Contacting support provides us with the information you include in your message.

Sample-library access codes

A reusable code supplied by SilverGrid Tech can sign you into a dedicated shared demo account without Google sign-in. We process the code to authenticate access and limit misuse. The demo contains sample videos only; favorites and viewing progress are shared with other demo users. Do not use a demo account for personal content. Sign out to stop using it. Contact info@silvergridtech.com about removing demo activity.

Private rooms, chat and voice

When you join a private room, other admitted participants receive your display name, device presence, selected video details and shared playback state. Local file matching uses a SHA-256 content fingerprint and file size; local paths and file bytes are not uploaded for matching. Hidden and VR videos cannot be selected for rooms.

Room membership and text messages are stored in Firebase. Desktop members can read earlier messages; TVs display newly arriving messages. Leaving does not delete a room or its history. The creator can remove participants, lock admission, or delete the room and its stored chat. Temporary connection signaling is cleaned up separately.

Desktop voice is optional and starts only when you join voice; microphone capture starts when you enable the microphone. TVs never capture microphone audio. Voice uses encrypted WebRTC connections, directly between devices when possible and through Cloudflare TURN relays when necessary. Video Party does not record or store voice conversations. Connection services process network addresses and operational traffic data; direct peers can learn each other’s network addresses. Cloudflare’s privacy policy is available at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.

Selected cloud videos are made accessible to admitted room participants through short-lived links. After removal or room deletion, no new links are issued; an already issued link can remain valid for up to two minutes and already received content cannot be recalled. YouTube playback and search contact YouTube and are subject to its privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy and terms at https://www.youtube.com/t/terms.

How we use information

We use information to operate accounts and device pairing, display your library, deliver video playback, synchronize favorites and resume positions, enforce storage allowances and access controls, respond to requests, diagnose failures, and protect the service against misuse. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.

Optional usage analytics

The desktop and Android TV apps offer Share basic usage, an optional setting that is off by default and must be enabled separately on each device. The app works without it. If you enable it, Google Analytics for Firebase collects app opens and sessions, basic feature interactions and playback events, app version, device and operating-system information, a random app-installation identifier, and approximate location (such as city or country) derived from your IP address. We use this information to understand usage and improve Video Party.

We do not include video names, file paths, search text, account identifiers, or Hidden-library activity in our custom Analytics events. Advertising ID collection, advertising signals, advertising personalization, and automatic screen reporting are disabled. We do not request device location permission or collect precise GPS location.

You can turn Share basic usage off at any time on each device. This stops Analytics collection and resets that device’s local Analytics identifier. It does not erase data already processed by Google or aggregated reports. Analytics records are managed under the retention settings of our Google Analytics property; contact info@silvergridtech.com about access or deletion requests. We do not attach your account ID to Analytics events, so we may be unable to identify past Analytics records from your account email alone. Google processes this information under its privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Website analytics

If you choose Allow analytics on our website, Microsoft Clarity helps us understand how visitors use our public pages and improve the website, tutorials, and downloads. Clarity processes page visits, clicks, scrolling, browser and device information, and interactions used to create heatmaps and session replays. Session replays reconstruct interactions with website pages; they do not record your video files, camera, or microphone.

Clarity loads only after you opt in and does not run on account or device-activation pages. Website analytics does not access your app library, local video files, private rooms, or account information. We allow analytics cookies after your choice and send Microsoft a separate signal denying advertising storage. We do not use this integration for targeted advertising.

Your website choice is saved in this browser and is separate from the apps' Share basic usage setting. Choose Analytics preferences in the website footer to change it at any time. Choosing No thanks stops further Clarity collection in this browser; it does not erase information already processed by Microsoft or aggregated reports. The website works without analytics. For more information about Microsoft's collection and use of data, see https://privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement. Contact info@silvergridtech.com with privacy requests.

Local streaming and security

Cloud authentication, API requests, uploads, and cloud playback use HTTPS. Local streaming between your Mac and TV uses authenticated HTTP on your private network and is not encrypted in transit. Use it only on a trusted home network. Video Party is not an end-to-end encrypted storage service. Authentication secrets are protected using the desktop operating system’s encrypted credential storage or Android Keystore. Linux sign-in requires an available secure keyring. No security measure guarantees absolute protection.

The Hidden folder uses a separate password verifier and access controls. We store a salted verifier rather than the password itself. A Mac can keep an encrypted offline verifier after a successful unlock. Hidden videos are excluded from the TV library. Hiding a video does not encrypt or move its original file, and an offline Mac may retain its last verified password until it reconnects.

Service providers and disclosures

Google Firebase and Google Cloud provide authentication, hosting, database, storage, and backend infrastructure on our behalf. Google Analytics for Firebase processes optional app usage analytics, and Microsoft Clarity processes optional website analytics, as described above. Google sign-in is also subject to Google’s privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy. Support email providers process messages you send us. Your connected devices receive the library and video information needed for playback.

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect people or the service, or in connection with a business transfer subject to appropriate protections. We do not make your private library publicly searchable or provide a public video-sharing feed.

Storage and retention

Account and cloud-library information is retained while needed to provide your account and chosen features, until you remove it or request deletion. Expired device pairing and rate-limit records are cleaned up on a daily schedule. Local library data remains on your devices until you remove it or the app’s stored data; deleting a library listing does not delete your original file.

Deleting a cloud copy removes it from active access. Google Cloud’s configured recovery and backup retention may preserve a deleted copy temporarily before it expires. Limited records may be retained when necessary for security, fraud prevention, resolving disputes, or legal obligations. We explain any applicable retention exception when responding to a deletion request rather than keeping active access to your deleted account.

Your choices and account deletion

You can disable TV sharing, sign out, remove local listings, and delete individual cloud copies from the Mac app. Cloud copies and local listings have separate deletion controls. To request deletion of your Video Party account and associated cloud data, visit https://videoparty.app/delete-account or email info@silvergridtech.com with the subject Video Party account deletion, using your account email. You do not need to reinstall the app. We verify account ownership before deleting data; never send us your password.

Account deletion includes authentication records, cloud copies, library metadata, favorites and progress, pairing and device records, storage allowances, and Hidden password verifiers associated with your account, subject to the limited retention exceptions above. It does not delete your Google account or original videos on your devices. You may also request access, correction, a copy of your information, or exercise other rights available under applicable law by contacting us. We respond within the periods required by applicable law.

Children, regions, and changes

Video Party is intended for users aged 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information contrary to this policy, contact us so we can investigate and delete it as appropriate. Where a higher minimum age for consent applies, users must meet that age or obtain the required parent or guardian permission.

SilverGrid Tech is based in the United States. Information may be processed in the United States and other locations where our service providers operate, subject to applicable data-protection requirements. We may update this policy as the service changes, revise the date above, and provide additional notice when required for material changes.
